# Interest stops while you keep an arrangement If you cannot pay your rates on time, you can ask for a payment arrangement. Interest stops from the day the arrangement starts and stays stopped while you keep it. ## How to ask Ask online at [My rates and fines](/my-rates) or call us. Tell us what you can afford each fortnight. We will confirm the arrangement in writing within two business days. ## What changed The council adopted policy PL-2026-003 on 21 September 2026. Before that, interest kept running during an arrangement.
