The income free area rises from $900 to $1,050 a fortnight, indexed each July to the CPI.

Should the income free area rise to $1,050 a fortnight and be indexed each July?

Evidence: Claims refused or reduced on income; Consumer price index, regional; Complaints about concession thresholds.

  • SUPPORT Regional Welfare Alliance: Indexation should have happened years ago; support the change.
  • OPPOSE Ratepayers' Association: Widening eligibility spends public money on people who can work more hours.
  • SUPPORT A. Okonjo: My hours were cut and I fell just over the line.
  • AMEND Small Business Chamber: Support indexation but taper more gently so part-time work is not discouraged.
  • SUPPORT Council: Index it, and review the taper at the same time.
